Roy Bamber is a consultant experienced in the financial sector in Africa and with a background of central banking, the financial system and information technology.

Master of Business Leadership, MBL, degree; University of South Africa (SA, 1983). 
BSc (Hons) degree in Physics, Manchester University (UK, 1965).

Languages: English: proficient (home language). Afrikaans: basic. French: basic.

Current assignments

Research for, and editor of, a Web-based African financial sector information source and directory: the SA Financial Sector Forum at www.finforum.co.za.
Publishing economic publications for the Economic Research Department of [SA] Absa Bank.

Past work experience

    Assignments

Payment system modernisation, assistance with orientation and strategic design and policy development in SADC countries and Uganda. 
Determination of business requirements for a regional payment and settlement system between countries of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
Resource person for the capacity building activities of the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI), particularly in the areas of financial markets; payment, clearing and settlement systems; and financial regulation. 
Research for, and a co-author of, a definitive report on financial regulation, Financial Regulation in South Africa, for the [SA] Policy Board for Financial Services and Regulation.

    Full-time experience

Assisting the governors of the Reserve Bank in several areas relating to the development and regulation of the South African financial system. Liaising and interacting with financial sector participants. 
An initiative for the strategic development and modernisation of the national payment systems.
Defining an integrated information processing strategy and policy for the [SA] Reserve Bank.
A director, representing the central bank, on the Boards of several South African bank clearing house and service companies.
