ABSA Bank - The Structure of the South African Economy
South Africa's reintegration into the world economy after the country's peaceful and successful transition to democracy in 1994, caused the domestic economy to be more prone to international economic and financial developments than in the past. The analysis is of a long-term nature and concentrates on structural issues, in most cases in comparison with other countries or world regions. It starts with a general overview of the country, followed by developments on the political, social and economic fronts. In conclusion, a socio-political overview of the country is presented.

ABSA Bank - Provincial Characteristics of South Africa
SA was demarcated in 1994 into nine new provinces. In the process, provincial governments, headed by premiers, were established in each province. Despite the regrouping of the initial provinces and homelands into the current nine provinces, the diversity in terms of resources, social development, infrastructure, and economic development is still very much evident in the various regions in the country. It is against this background of great regional diversity and inequality that this book, comparing the provinces with each other as well as the country as a whole, is published. The analysis is organised into specific subjects of comparison and does not take the form of extensive provincial profiles. It starts with a general overview and geographic orientation of the provinces. This is followed by developments on the political, social and economic fronts.

ABSA Bank - Long-term Prospects for the South African Economy: 2003-2017
Three long-term scenarios for the SA economy are provided: A conservative, base and optimistic scenario. The conservative scenario assumes a “muddling through” approach in which sound policies mostly takes a backseat to political opportunism. The base scenario encompasses Absa’s most realistic economic view of South Africa’s future. In the optimistic scenario not all economic indicators are considered to be better than in the base scenario, but the overall economic performance, as measured by economic growth and per capita income growth, is better in this scenario than in the other two scenarios.
